Meet Our Founder
Pastor Carol Walker is
a licensed minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a registered nurse with over 30 years in the helping business.
She founded Alabaster Box as a sober living and transitional house over eight years ago, to help women trying to
overcome addictions. In a recent interview she stated, “I’ve been a psychiatric nurse for over 30 years,
and I’ve seen women coming in and out of the hospital, and most of the time it was a dual-diagnosis,”. See
interview below.
She has lived in Lawndale most of her life, but in 2002 God called her to "gather the
broken pieces so that none would be lost." Since then she has devoted her time and energy to building Alabaster
Box.
Who We Are
We are a residential facility nestled
in the Austin community, on the West side of Chicago, Il. Our residence is clean and comfortable. There is no administrative
offices or multiple staff on site as our goal is to create an enhanced sense of independent living. We believe in a peer-led
environment with staff as overseers, to foster healthy decision-making.

Our Biblical Mandate
When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was
eating at the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume, and as she stood behind him
at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then, she wiped them with her hair,
kissed them and poured perfume on them. Luke &: 34 - 38.

Our Programs
Our goal is to provide the transitional housing in a group setting to those
less fortunate. We operate a supportive housing service where we encourage recovery, embrace and support healthy positive
values, family commitment and life skills. We provide or offer training that includes life skill, Bible study, GED process,
NA, CA, AA, job preparation, parenting classes, relapse prevention, anger management, health and hygiene, domestic violence
workshops, one-on-one counseling and referrals, and medication compliance.
In addition, our staff is committed
to mentor our residents about hard work, self respect and how to become responsible productive members of society. Our
housing assistance is available for those who are dually diagnosed with mental health and addiction issues. Residents must
be willing to continue treatment on an outpatient basis with a community mental health agency.
